Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
- Peach Schnapps
You can use Peach Absolut instead of schnapps. Just keep in mind that Absolut is vodka and has a much higher alcohol content.
- Orange Juice
Using pulp free juice will guarantee a very smooth cocktail.
However, you can use whatever you have — even freshly squeezed. Sometimes it’s just the refreshing kick you need in a tropical cocktail!
If you aren’t a fan of overly sweet cocktails, use grapefruit juice instead of orange. You can also add ½ teaspoon of lemon juice for a bit of tartness.
Alternatively, use pineapple juice instead of orange, for an even sweeter beverage! I also love the tart note that the pineapple adds to a Sex on the Beach drink.
- Prefer blended fruity drinks?
Toss the ingredients into a blender with some ice for a frozen Sex on the Beach cocktail!!
There’s another version of the classic Sex on the Beach recipe that includes Midori, Chambord, vodka, pineapple juice, and cranberry juice.
The colors in this one are amazing as well, thanks to the bright green Midori!

Prep Ahead Instructions
Because everything gets stirred together, you can easily mix up a batch of this Sex on the Beach recipe before guests arrive.
Citrus juice can be a bit finicky, so I recommend combining everything no more than a day in advance.
Just keep it covered and store it in the refrigerator, and give it a quick stir before serving.

I grew up in Florida and my favorite beach was probably "Writing on the road", a uncrowded beach break in an undeveloped (at the time) stretch of A1A between Ponte Vedra and St Augustine. Nice waves when they broke 3' or more, no police presence to curtail beach parties, and no townies.
Hard to believe these were invented in the late 80's since we had them all the time but I guess memory could be off 🙂
No, not off. I drank these in the 70's.
We were serving these in bars in upstate NY in the mid 80's. I know this for sure because I was a bartender then. So Florida must have been behind the times. Oh…and Clearwater…best beach if you want to hang and have some fun. St. Augustine, best for relaxation….
Fell in love with this drink when I was in Cancun! Finish filling the glass with orange juice…what size glass? I'm thinking the amount of orange juice would affect the taste.
any suggestions on a substitute for cranberry juice? Outside the US it can be hard to find.
I make mine the same, but instead of cranberry juice, i use pineapple juice…it is amazing
Pineapple juice us great. Add a splash of amarito with it too.
We're twinsies (well, almost) today! I love this cocktail, I've always wondered what was in it. Love the combo of peach and vodka and cranberry!
Virgin morjito recipe please
Randome side note – you mentioned jamming to Poison. They happen to be my favorite band, just as this is currently my favorite recipe site 😉
Instead of grenadine I put a splash of ameretto in the sex on the beach
I make mine with pineapple juice instead of orange juice and instead of peach schnapps, I use midori and chambord
Whoops. I use peach schnapps, midori and chambered.
The mix and ingredients are quite expensive…
This drink was so tasty, I am so glad I tried it. I have always been a cocktail fan, but never knew how to make this one! It is such a delicious and refreshing summer cocktail, I will be making it more often from now on!
can you use something besides the peach?
