When I brought this to the table Munchkin’s eyes lit up like a kid on Christmas morning.  She and I had so much fun with this.  It was a joy to watch her eat each piece of fruit.  Next time I make it I will add more fruit that she is not as familiar with to make it even more exciting.

Cantaloupe Fruit Bowl

I love love love fruit salad. It is so much fun to put together your favorite fruit and dressings and create a spectacular dish. Of course, I love fruit salad at potlucks and picnics. I am pretty sure our every popular Summer Berry Cheesecake Salad will see a ton of parties this year.

But, when you want fruit salad and it is for you and the family, maybe something a little more low-key is what you are looking for. Low key doesn’t mean it has to be boring.

I love cutting a cantaloupe or a honeydew melon in half and filling it with a simple fruit salad.

We love grapes, melon, and bananas, and it makes a straightforward and spectacular side dish.

So, whether you are serving it along side lunch, dinner or just a snack, you can take an extra moment to add some pizzazz to your bowl.

I used the curved vegetable peeler that I had on hand to make a really fun, wavy edge. But, you could certainly just slice the melon in half.

Then I scooped out the seeds and used a melon baller to remove the fruit. That left a crater filled melon shell.

The shell is perfect for using as a serving bowl, and that is just what I did.

I mixed up some of our favorite fruit, melon, grapes and banana. I added the juice of one lemon and stirred it together.

Enjoy!
With love, from our simple kitchen to yours.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cantaloupe
  • 1 cup grapes, I used green, red and black
  • 1 medium banana, sliced
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced

Instructions

  • Slice cantaloupe in half. If you would like a decorative edge, slide your cutter in and out around the cantaloupe. Then, use a melon baller to scoop out the melon from one-half of the melon.
  • In a medium bowl combine melon balls with grapes and banana slices. Squeeze lemon on top, the lemon will add another dimension and keep the fruit from browning. Toss gently with a medium size serving spoon to mix.
  • Place fruit mixture back into hollowed out cantaloupe half. Serve at room temperature or chilled.
  • Enjoy!

Donna’s Notes

To get a fancy edge on the cantaloupe use a vegetable peeler with a curved side or a v-shaped blade.

  1. What a great idea to spruce up the average bowl/presentation. I'm a fruit person, but I think this would easily convert those who aren't just because it looks so pretty and delicious!

  2. SO beautiful! Simple, but just what I'd love for breakfast, lunch or dessert…perfect.
