How To Make Red Robin Fries

  1. Prep the potatoes. Give all of them a good scrub to remove any dirt, then slice into wedges.
  2. Add oil and seasoning. Place the wedges in a large bowl and toss with vegetable and spice blend until all of the pieces are evenly coated.
  3. Bake. Spread out in a single layer on a baking sheet, then sprinkle a little more seasoning over the top. Cook for about 40 minutes, flipping the steak fries halfway so they crisp evenly.

Homemade Seasoning Blend

If you don’t have a restaurant nearby, you can easily create something similar with a few pantry staples. A helpful reader shared this post and I’ve also listed it below:

  • 3 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant tomato soup mix
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Combine everything in a bowl or mason jar. Double or triple the amounts to have some on hand and store in a cool, dry place for the best shelf life.

Note: Depending on your store, the tomato soup mix may be located with the canned soup or the Mexican spices.

Soak the wedges in a bowl of hot water for about 10 minutes immediately after slicing. Be sure to drain and pat dry before coating with oil and spices.

Ingredients
 

  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 pounds Russet potatoes, cut into wedges
  • 1 tablespoon Red Robin seasoning, divided

Homemade Red Robin Seasoning Recipe 

  • 3 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant tomato soup mix 
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400° F.
  • Place the potatoes in a large bowl. Toss with vegetable oil. Sprinkle in 1/2 tablespoon seasoning, toss well to coat.
  • On 2 baking sheets, lay fries out in a single layer (not touching). Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 tablespoon (more or less to taste) over fries.
  • Bake for approximately 40 minutes, flip fries half way through. I also rotated the baking sheets, top to bottom and bottom to top.
  • Serve and enjoy!!

    And for the record, these fries were absurdly good. Pretty much the most addicting fries I've had in my life. Honestly, they were better than Red Robin's.   6. I always try to find recipes that BAKE rather than fry to cut down on the fat. These looked so good I could not resist making them. I tried it out last night and my kids went crazy over them and I quite liked them as well and easy to make!

  7. Once you know what you need and how it goes together, head to the grocery store and pick up the ingredients. If you are concerned about calories, you can change things up. Use a veggie burger patty instead of a meat patty. Or use a low calorie option for sauces. Most importantly, when you cook it, you can cut out a lot of the grease and fat. Not only will you satisfy the Red Robin craving, you may have even shaved off a few calories.

  8. If the purpose of this recipe is to be able to make this at home, why did you not include a recipe for the seasoning? If I have to go to Red Robin to purchase their seasoning, I might as well just eat there. Otherwise, I love your site and most all of the recipes!
