Recipe Tips
- Choose a bottle that you love. I used a Reisling because I prefer sweeter varieties for this type of drink, but any white wine will do. The important thing is to use something that you enjoy drinking by itself since more expensive doesn’t always mean better!
- Get out every last drop! When juicing citrus, it helps to roll the fruit back and forth across the counter while gently pressing with the palm of your hand. Think like a rolling pin. Heat can help too, so be sure the oranges are room temperature before using them.
- Want to used bottled juice instead? Stick with brands that are 100% juice over those that are from concentrate. Not only will there be less added sugar (or none at all!) but you’ll avoid any strange or bitter aftertaste.
Garnish Ideas
Want to add a pretty touch to your wine glasses? All you need are some extra fruit slices and cinnamon sticks. Make them look fancy with a curl of candied orange peel, or even a sprig of mint or basil would be a nice touch!
Kitchen Tools for Making Citrus Sangria
- Large Pitcher - This 80-ounce pitcher is simple enough for everyday use and allows your drink to be the star of the show.
- Citrus Juicer - This gets every last drop out, which means juicing fruit is so much easier.
- Cheesecloth and Kitchen Twine - Use these to form a pouch for the spices so you don’t have to fish them out later. Filter bags for loose tea would work as well.
White Wine Sangria FAQ
What is triple sec?
It is a sweet liqueur with a concentrated orange flavor. There are a lot of low-quality versions that use extra sugar to mask poor flavor, so this is where you want to splurge for the best results.
Can I make white wine sangria ahead of time?
You can easily mix your citrus sangria up the night before! Just be sure to remove the spice packet before heading to bed or the flavor will be too strong. It should stay in the pitcher for no more than 2 hours total.
What other fruit can I add to a white wine sangria?
The options are a bit limited because of the added spices, but I think peaches would taste delicious! The fruit should be on the firmer side so it doesn’t disintegrate in the liquid, or simply add a splash of peach juice or schnapps.
Enjoy!
