Overnight oats is one of my favorite ways to have hot oatmeal ready to eat on busy mornings.&nbsp;<br><br>Most people forget to add this delicious breakfast recipe to their radar &#8211; but it&#8217;s an easy meal prep idea that literally feeds the whole family fast.&nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There&#8217;s no better way to make a hot bowl of oatmeal, in my opinion, and I use this easy recipe all the time.&nbsp;<br><br>Not only is it a hearty breakfast, but it&#8217;s such a good thing to make for all the family members because everyone gets to add their own favorite toppings.&nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I like to add chia seeds for a little crunch and a little maple syrup for sweetness, but that&#8217;s just my perfect way.&nbsp;<br><br>There are so many different ways that everyone can customize their individual portions &#8211; and it&#8217;s so simple to do! <br><br>Add this to your list of favorite breakfasts to make because it&#8217;s an awesome way to kick off the morning.&nbsp;<br><br>This slow cooker oatmeal recipe makes a warm breakfast that is a great option for everyone to enjoy.&nbsp;</p>

<li><strong>Old-Fashioned Oats&nbsp;</strong>&#8211; Opt for old-fashioned oats (also called rolled oats) for your slow cooker oatmeal.&nbsp;They soften up nicely and will give you a really creamy texture.&nbsp;<br><br>You could also use steel oats, but I don’t recommend using instant.<br></li>



<li><strong>Apples&nbsp;</strong>&#8211; Use your favorite variety, but make sure they’re cut into bite-sized pieces.&nbsp;<br></li>



<li><strong>Brown Sugar&nbsp;</strong>&#8211; I absolutely LOVE using brown sugar in crockpot apple oatmeal. It complements the fruit perfectly and adds depth to the overall dish.<br></li>



<li><strong>Craisins&nbsp;</strong>&#8211; Here’s where the cranberry flavor in this crockpot oatmeal recipe comes from!&nbsp;<br><br>Alternatively, you could use fresh berries for even more tartness.&nbsp;You may consider adding a touch of honey to the mix to balance it out.<br></li>



<li><strong>Butter&nbsp;</strong>&#8211; I’m using unsalted butter because I like to add a bit of salt. You could also use salted and leave that extra pinch out.</li>
</ul>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can also add some chocolate chips to this great recipe for a bit of sweetness!&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Half the beauty of making this crockpot oatmeal recipe is that you can prep it the night before!</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Add the apples, craisins, and butter to a Ziploc bag and refrigerate. Then, combine oats, brown sugar, and salt into a separate zip-top bag and set aside.&nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In the morning, pour both bags into the slow cooker, add water, and turn it on. Voila!!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To reheat oatmeal, add a splash of milk (or almond milk!) or water &nbsp;and microwave for 1 minute (more as necessary) or warm on the stove while stirring occasionally.</p>

<li><strong>Eggs &#8211;&nbsp;</strong>You’ll need 12 large eggs, yolks and all!&nbsp;<br><br>You could try making this overnight slow cooker breakfast with just egg whites, but keep in mind that the texture will be different — and you may need to play around with the cooking time.<br></li>



<li><strong>Heavy Cream &#8211;&nbsp;</strong>You could also use half and half instead.<br></li>



<li><strong>Chicken Sausage &#8211;&nbsp;</strong>I’m using fully cooked&nbsp;<a href="https://bit.ly/1UHP86H"><strong>Chicken Sausage from Jones Dairy Farm</strong></a>. It’s all natural with no nitrates or nitrites, no MSG, and no preservatives.&nbsp;<br><br>And wait for it… it tastes amazing!!&nbsp;<br><br>You can find it in the freezer section at your retailer, nationwide or check out their&nbsp;<a href="https://bit.ly/1NLqYnj"><strong>locator</strong></a>. Ground sausage could also be used, although I like the texture of pieces better.&nbsp;<br></li>



<li><strong>Hash Browns &#8211;&nbsp;</strong>It wouldn’t be crockpot breakfast without some yummy hash browns!&nbsp;<br><br>I usually opt for refrigerated, as frozen contains a lot of excess moisture that you don’t want in your casserole.</li>



<li><strong>Cheese &#8211;&nbsp;</strong>You’ll need both mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. If you’re a total cheese lover, consider adding even more!<br></li>



<li><strong>Seasonings &#8211;&nbsp;</strong>Onion powder, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and chopped fresh basil will do the trick. If you have other favorites, add them!</li>
</ul>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can also add a few other ingredients if you&#8217;d like. <br><br>Diced bell peppers, chopped green onions, fresh veggies, green chiles, and diced jalapenos are all great ways to add a pop of flavor and texture to easy slow-cooker breakfast recipes like this.&nbsp;</p>

I used a 6 quart crockpot. Whisk until well combined. Sprinkle spices (onion powder, salt and both peppers) over egg mixture while whisking. Whisk until completely combined. Using fingers, gently toss hash brown mixture until combined. Pour egg mixture over casserole. Cover the slow cooker and cook for 6-8 hours on low or until a thermometer inserted into the center of the casserole reads 160°F. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Thaw a package of frozen dinner rolls, then cut them into quarters. Coat the pieces in butter and toss in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Add them to a buttered crock pot and cook on High until they are fluffy and cooked through. Start checking at around 1 ½ hours, though it can take up to 3 hours total.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Just before the dough is done, whip up the cream cheese frosting. Drizzle it over the top and serve immediately.&nbsp;<br><br>Or, turn the monkey bread with frozen bread dough out onto a serving tray before icing.</p>

<li><strong>Double the frosting.</strong>&nbsp;If you prefer to have extra icing for dipping, you’ll want to make twice the listed amount.<br></li>



<li><strong>Add fruit or nuts.</strong>&nbsp;Peel and chop up a firm apple or two to mix in with the dough pieces or sprinkle some walnuts or pecans between the layers of cinnamon roll monkey bread!<br></li>



<li><strong>Tip for easy cleanup:</strong>&nbsp;Line your crockpot with parchment so you can lift the treat straight out when it’s done!&nbsp;Keep in mind that it may take a bit longer to cook with this extra layer.</li>

Add the remaining bites in a second even layer. Sprinkle any leftover cinnamon sugar from the bag over the top, then pour any remaining melted butter evenly over everything.</span></div></li><li id="wprm-recipe-13128-step-0-5" class="wprm-recipe-instruction" style="list-style-type: decimal;"><div class="wprm-recipe-instruction-text" style="margin-bottom: 5px;"><span style="display: block;"><strong>COOK: </strong>Cover and cook on HIGH for 1 hour 45 minutes to 3 hours. Start checking at 1 hour 45 minutes. The bread is done when the top layer is puffed and golden, the edges pull away slightly from the sides of the crock, and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Every slow cooker heats differently, so watch closely the first time. Tucking paper towels under the lid absorbs excess moisture and keeps the bread from getting soggy.</span></div></li><li id="wprm-recipe-13128-step-0-6" class="wprm-recipe-instruction" style="list-style-type: decimal;"><div class="wprm-recipe-instruction-text" style="margin-bottom: 5px;"><span style="display: block;"><strong>MAKE FROSTING:</strong> While the bread cooks, beat <span class="wprm-inline-ingredient wprm-inline-ingredient-13128-5 wprm-block-text-bold" data-both-units="0">4 ounces cream cheese</span> and <span class="wprm-inline-ingredient wprm-inline-ingredient-13128-6 wprm-block-text-bold" data-both-units="0">2 tablespoons unsalted butter</span> with an electric hand mixer in a tall bowl until smooth and creamy, about 1 minute. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">With the holidays quickly approaching I can&#8217;t help but start thinking about recipes for Thanksgiving and Christmas. And to be honest when a recipe crosses over from breakfast or Brinner (breakfast for dinner) into the perfect side dish, I am in heaven.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I was working on the perfect Brinner recipe, a cheesy bacon potato casserole when I realized what this casserole needed was a cheese sauce like you would have in mac and cheese, but with potatoes and BACON!!!</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Truth time here, my picky 7-year-old has been fighting me over trying bacon for years and honestly I haven&#8217;t pushed the issue because&#8230;&nbsp; well&#8230; It&#8217;s bacon and I don&#8217;t want to share. Well last week when I was working on this recipe Chad asked her to try the bacon again. And she absolutely fell in love. I mean how could you not? Jones Dairy Farm <a href="https://bit.ly/2f5TUv4" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><strong>Cherrywood Smoked Sliced Bacon</strong></a> is my favorite, but the Hickory Smoked is totally drool worthy.</p>
