Ingredient Notes and Swaps
- Potatoes – Russet potatoes are the best choice for making homemade Red Robin fries.
- Oil – Vegetable oil has a neutral flavor and a high smoke point, making it perfect for homemade fries. Canola or avocado oil are great alternatives.
- Seasoning – Grab a bottle from your nearest restaurant, or make a homemade version with the Red Robin seasoning recipe below!
To get potato wedges to be crispier, soak them in a bowl of hot water for about 10 minutes immediately after slicing.
Be sure to drain and pat dry before coating with oil and spices.
This helps to remove excess starch while also allowing the vegetables to absorb extra moisture, giving you a crispier texture when baked.

Homemade Red Robin Fry Seasoning
If you don’t have a restaurant nearby, you can easily create something similar with a few pantry staples. A helpful reader shared this post, and I’ve also listed it below:
- 3 tablespoons salt
- 1 tablespoon instant tomato soup mix
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- ¼ teaspoon cumin
- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Combine everything in a bowl or mason jar.
Even though everyone loves the signature blend yumm red robin seasoning salt, this is a close recipe that can be made at home in the common kitchen. (You can also use this on sweet potato fries!)
Double or triple the amounts of your homemade Red Robin seasoning to have some on hand and store in a cool, dry place for the best shelf life.
Note: Depending on your store, the tomato soup mix may be located with the canned soup or the Mexican spices.

How To Make Red Robin Steak Fries
- Prep the potatoes. Give all of them a good scrub to remove any dirt, then slice into wedges.
- Add oil and seasoning. Place the wedges in a large bowl and toss with vegetable and Red Robin fry seasoning (bottled or homemade) until all of the pieces are evenly coated.
- Bake. Spread wedges out in a single layer on a baking sheet, then sprinkle a little more seasoning over the top.
Cook for about 40 minutes, flipping the fries halfway so they crisp evenly. Cooking times may vary so pay close attention to the texture.
While you could make these in the air fryer, I find that baking them gives that golden color and texture that we all love.

I think they are perfect just the way they are, but you can certainly add a dipping sauce like ketchup or buttermilk ranch.
Red Robin Seasoning FAQ
According to the label, the ingredients include two types of salt, black pepper, celery seed, cumin, oregano, sage, paprika, and natural smoke flavor.
The original Red Robin seasoning recipe also lists garlic, onion, and tomato as dried vegetables, along with yeast extract and dried cane syrup to round out the flavor profiles.
If there’s a restaurant location near you, just ask your server or a host to ring you up for a bottle or two!
Otherwise, you will need to find it at an online retailer.
Don’t forget, this is your recipe that you’re making in your kitchen. You can add parmesan butter, BBQ sauce, garlic powder to make garlic fries, or add salt and let their natural flavor shine through – or use a dipping sauce and enjoy every bite.
I love adding Parmesan cheese on top of mine!
Why not? Once you make these thick cut fries, you should also create their famous gourmet burgers to mimic the great taste of Red Robin restaurants! Don’t forget to pair with their signature sauces.
Since you’re serving yourself at home, you can make your own bottomless beverages, root beer floats, towering onion rings, or anything other bottomless items that you want.
If I’m feeling healthy, I’ll even whip up some garlic parmesan broccoli, sliced sweet potatoes, or a simple side salad as well.

Enjoy!

Homemade Red Robin Seasoning Recipe
- 3 tablespoons kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon instant tomato soup mix
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Pans: Preheat oven to 400°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or lightly grease them with oil. Set aside.
- Prepare the Seasoning: Combine seasoning ingredients in a small bowl.
- Cut the Potatoes: Cut Russet potatoes into thick steak fry-style wedges. Try to keep them uniform for even cooking.
- Season the Potatoes: Divide the wedges between the two prepared baking sheets. Drizzle each pan of potato wedges with ½ of the vegetable oil and sprinkle each with about ¼ tablespoon of Red Robin-style seasoning. Use your hands or a spatula to toss directly on the pan until evenly coated.
- Arrange the Fries: Spread the seasoned wedges into a single layer on each pan. Make sure the fries aren’t touching so they can crisp properly.
- Add More Seasoning: Sprinkle the remaining ½ tablespoon of seasoning, evenly over the tops (divided between the two pans). Add more or less to taste.
- Bake the Fries: Bake for 40 minutes, flipping the fries halfway through. Rotate the baking sheets top to bottom and bottom to top for even browning.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
