Grilled Sweet Potato Fries

Welcome to TSRI’s Summer Grilling Celebration!  Today we are talking about fries.  What goes better together than peas and carrots or peanut butter and jelly?  How about a fabulous burger and fries.  French fries are the most perfect side for a burger, but when we are grilling we usually serve salads or chips for convenience.

I was trying to figure out how you can have the best of both worlds.  How can you have an amazing burger and fries when you are barbequing?  Well, the truth is you grill them!!!  But, putting raw potatoes on a grill, does not a french fry make.  {Is that even English?}  The trick?  Par-boil them before you grill them. Prep them and toss them on the grill when you are ready, any where….  at home, at a friends, at the beach.  Anywhere you can grill you can make these unbelievable Grilled Sweet Potato
Fries! We also have crispy sweet potato fries with a spicy fry sauce that you will love.

They are cut into wedges with the skin on.  They are simply amazing!  The flavor of the caramelized sweet potato is incredible.  We serve these with a Chipotle Lime Mayo Dipping Sauce.  It is kind of my version of Red Robin’s Campfire Sauce, with a twist (that’s the lime).  It is so good, I think I am going to have a sandwich for lunch tomorrow just so I can use the sauce again.  Check back next week for the Chipotle Lime Mayo Dipping Sauce.

Grilled Sweet Potato Fries

Anywhere you can grill you can make these unbelievable Grilled Sweet Potato Fries!

Ingredients
 

  • 2 pounds large sweet potatoes
  • Olive Oil in a sprayer, Extra Virgin, I used a Misto
  • Kosher Salt
  • Pepper

Instructions
 

  • Boil sweet potatoes in salted water for 10-15 minutes until tender. Allow to cool. Cut into wedges and place on a baking tray. Spray with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper and grill about 3 minutes on each side. Sprinkle with salt again.

  1. Those fries are gorgeous! Do they get crisp on the grill? Or stay soft? I love the flavor of caramelized sweet potatoes, so I know I would love this version!

    1. The surface is crisp with a caramelized flavor. As with all sweet potatoes as they sit they will get moist. I was able to reheat these. 425 for 10-12 minutes, flipping once. They crisped up perfectly.
