Oreo Dump Cake in a bowl
If you have a sweet tooth, this delicious dessert is just for you. After seeing this recipe go viral on TikTok, I knew that I had to make one for myself.

If you've never made a dump cake before, this easy dessert requires no mixing at all. You simply dump all of the ingredients into a baking pan and bake. How easy is that? Check out more of our Dump Cake Recipes HERE.

Oreo Dump Cake ingredients

What is it called dump cake?

As I mentioned, this style of dessert is made by dumping the ingredients into a pan and baking without mixing.

Unlike traditional cakes that require mixing bowls and spoons, all you need to make this simple dessert is a 9 x 13 baking dish and a few basic ingredients you probably have in the kitchen already.

What does dump cake taste like?

Dump cake will take on the flavor of whatever ingredients you're using. So, an apple dump cake will taste apples.

And, this Oreo Dump Cake tastes like chocolate Oreos.

This dessert is somewhere between a cobbler and a cake. It's very sweet and decadent. And, a little bit goes a long way.

What do I need to make Oreo Dump cake?

You will need the following ingredients.
  • One package of Oreo cookies (not double stuffed or family-sized)
  • Sweetened condensed milk
  • Chocolate fudge instant pudding mix
  • Cream cheese
  • Powdered sugar
  • Whipped topping
  • Devil's food cake mix
  • Unsalted butter

As an optional topping, you can also use more Oreos and vanilla ice cream.

Is this the 5-ingredient Oreo dump cake?

I've seen a version of this dessert that uses only 5 ingredients. Basically, it does not use the pudding mix, cream cheese, or powdered sugar.

Trust me, this version is so much better. And, it's definitely worth adding a few extra ingredients for the final version.

Should dump cake be refrigerated?

You will want to eat this dessert warm so that it is soft and creamy. If you refrigerate it, the bottom layer of the cake begins to harden.

No worries, if it does harden, you can heat it in the microwave for a few seconds until it warms up again.

Different toppings for dump cake

Of course, this Oreo cake doesn't need any topping at all. It's absolutely decadent on its own straight from the oven.

But, if you do want to add a few toppings to this chocolate dump cake you can certainly do that.

  • Crushed Oreo's
  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Chopped nuts
  • Caramel sauce
  • Hot chocolate

What cake mix can I use in Oreo dump cake?

If you don't have devil's food cake mix, you can use a plain chocolate cake mix instead. Or, you can make it with a yellow cake mix if you want something that is less chocolatey.

Just be sure that the cake mix has the same weight so you get the same results.

What to do  if your dump cake has cake mix on top after baking

If you take your dump cake out of the oven and notice that it still has cake mix powder on top, you can fix that easily.

All you need to do is to add a little bit of butter to the top and bake it for a few more minutes.

Just be sure to check it after a minute to be sure that the butter has melted into all of the areas you saw the cake mix.

Oreo Dump Cake

Oreo Dump Cake is so decadent and absolutely delicious. It's like a brownie mixed with cookies and cream. Try it today.
Prep time: 7 MinCook time: 45 MinTotal time: 52 Min

  • 1 (14.3 ounce) package regular Oreos (not the double stuffed or family size)
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (3.9 ounce) box chocolate fudge instant pudding mix
  • 1 (8 ounce) block cream cheese, softened
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 (8 ounce) container whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box devil’s food cake mix
  • ¾ cup (1 ½ sticks) unsalted butter, sliced
  • Topping: vanilla ice cream and crushed Oreo’s (optional)

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9”x13” baking dish until well coated, and set aside.
  2. Layer about 24 Oreo cookies in the bottom of the dish until fully covered. Top with sweetened condensed milk.
  3. Add chocolate fudge pudding mix over the condensed milk in an even layer.
  4. In a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar until mixed well. Fold in the whipped cream until well combined. Spread over the pudding mix layer (It’s ok if this mixes some with the layer underneath)
  5. Add the devil’s food cake mix next in an even layer. Do not mix.
  6. Top with sliced butter and bake for 40-45 minutes.
  7. Serve warm with ice cream and top with crushed oreos.
  1. You could top this with caramel also and it would add a nice additional flavor. I wouldn’t do a lot though because this is already sweet on its own.
  2. I recommend serving this warm with ice cream. If it becomes cool, you can reheat in the microwave at 30 second intervals until it reaches the desired temperature.
  3. I recommend serving this after allowing it to rest for about 5 minutes. Just use caution because the interior of the cake gets really hot. Be extra careful when serving this to children, as they are a bit more sensitive to hot foods than most adults.
  4. Once this starts to cool, the bottom of the cake begins to harden. I recommend transferring the entire cake to a reusable container and store it in the refrigerator for 1-3 days.
  5. To crush the oreos for additional topping, you can place them in a ziploc bag and roll a rolling pin over the cookies. You could also put them in a food processor and crush them up that way.
  6. This is such a great dessert for larger groups because you can serve smaller portions since it’s so rich. Just top with ice cream and enjoy!
  7. I don’t have devil’s food cake mix. Can I use just a plain chocolate cake mix? Yes, you can substitute, just make sure the cake mix box has the same weight.
  8. This is such a quick dessert. If you are in a hurry, this is so easy with very little prep time. If you want to make it even faster, just eliminate the cream cheese and powdered sugar and just create a whipped cream layer.
  9. Why is it called a dump cake? This recipe gets its name because you are dumping ingredients into the pan. It’s so easy and simple!
  10. This is not a traditional cake, so the texture is not the same. It is kind of like a mixture between a cobbler and a gooey delicious brownie.
  11. If my cake mix still looks like it’s powdery after baking, how do I fix that? Just add a little more butter to the top of the uncooked cake mix, and bake for about a minute. Be sure to check often to make sure the butter has melted onto all the dry areas.

  1. Would this work using homemade whipped cream from heavy cream instead of the whipped topping?

    1. I was wondering the same thing, I want to use unsweetened whipped cream to cut back a bit on the sugar overload and reduce the sugar in the cream cheese. Did you try it??
