Nutter Butter cake in a mug tastes just like a fluffy version of the popular cookie. Make it in the microwave with just 4 simple ingredients!
Mug cakes are perfect for when you want a single serving of something sweet. I’ve been compiling all of the best flavors and recipes, like chocolate chip, Oreo, and funfetti.
This particular Nutter Butter dessert is tender and moist without being too rich. It’s got just the right amount of texture and flavor to satisfy any craving!

How To Make Nutter Butter Cake
Whip up this recipe in a few easy steps and you’ll be back on the couch before the commercial break ends!
- Crush the cookies. Run them through a food processor until they make a fine crumble.
- Mix the ingredients together. Add everything to your mug and stir until well combined.
- Microwave and garnish. Cook for about 1 minute, then let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Helpful Tips and Tricks
- Don’t have a food processor? Seal the cookies in a ziploc bag and use a rolling pin or your fingers to crush them instead.
- Adjust cooking time as needed. Since every microwave is different, check to be sure the cake is fully done in the center. If not, heat in additional 10-second bursts until it is.
- Enjoy this every night! Cut down on the prep work by crushing an entire package of cookies at once. Store them in a sealed container in the pantry, then measure out 1.6 ounces of crumbs (about 3 tablespoons) when you’re ready to make one.
Topping Suggestions
While this Nutter Butter cake is certainly delicious on its own, a simple dusting of powdered sugar or a swirl of whipped cream will put it over the top!
If you want to throw some chocolate in the mix, try adding chopped Reese’s cups, chocolate chips, or a drizzle of homemade fudge sauce.
FAQ – Common Recipe Questions
Can I cook more than one Nutter Butter dessert at once?
Sure! Prepare as many mugs as you need, but I would suggest only microwaving two at a time for best results. Keep in mind that the overall cooking time will probably be longer as well.
How do I tell when mug cakes are done?
When you press lightly on the top, the texture should be tender but firm. If it makes a deep dent, it needs more time.
Can I use plant based milk instead?
While I haven’t tried it myself, I don’t see why not. Almond milk will complement the flavor of the cookies, and soy or oat milk are always great substitutes for baking because of their texture and neutral flavor.
Enjoy!
