Chocolate Banana Ice Cream is a long time family favorite. It is rich and creamy, perfectly chocolaty with only 2 ingredients. We have been enjoying simple "ice cream" recipes for years, but everyone loves a little chocolate now and then and we always come back to this one. I have to tell you we have enjoyed this Simple 2 Ingredient Chocolate Banana "Ice Cream"countless times over the last few years and you are going to love it!!!
I have mentioned how challenging my 5 year old has become at meal time. Munchkin has become picky about everything so, I have been pretty creative with her meals. Over the last few years we have noticed that our normally well behaved child will change her behavior immediately after eating processed sugar and apparently even the natural sugar in a small bowl of fresh fruit could launch her to the moon.
Between Munchkins sensitivity to sugar and us trying to eat healthy... Naturally sweetened treats are king! This "ice cream" is currently Munchkin's favorite treat! She asks for it at every meal. Truth is, its so healthy she could eat it for breakfast. Not that it would happen, but she could eat it for breakfast. LOL

2 Ingredient Chocolate Banana "Ice Cream"
This chocolate frozen treat is a long time family favorite.
Ingredients
- 6 ripe bananas (3 fresh and 3 frozen)
- 3 tablespoons cacao powder (or cocoa powder)
Instructions
- Place bananas in a blender. Blend until mixture starts to get creamy, scraping down sides as necessary. Add cacao powder and pulse until completely combined.
- Transfer to a resealable container and place in freezer for 3-4 hours.
- Scoop and serve or scoop and place scoops into a container for later use. If you decide to leave it in the freezer, just allow it to sit at room temperature for 10 minutes or so, to soften before serving.
- Enjoy!
- If you do not have a high powdered blender you may want to cut your bananas into slices and freeze them.
- There are no preservatives in your ice cream, so it will freeze solid. Simply remove from the freezer 10 minutes before serving to allow to soften slightly. If freezes and keeps beautifully!
- You can transfer to a freezer-safe container and allow ice cream to firm up in the freezer for 2 to 3 hours.

DeleteThis looks so creamy and delicious Donna. And so simple, seems like a no brainer for all of us who are constantly trying to loose those extra few pounds!
ReplyDeleteSeriously Chris! I love these fruit "ice creams" for that very reason!
DeleteI love banana ice cream - so simple that I gave away my ice cream maker.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the brand name of the cup that is pictured with the chocobanana ice cream? Where did you get it? It would match my retro kitchen perfectly.
Wow, could it be any simpler?? Amazing..
ReplyDeleteSo simple I never blogged it. Then people I know started asking for the recipe. I though maybe it would be helpful to our readers. Thanks for coming by!
DeleteI love finding ice cream recipes that don't require an ice cream maker (one appliance I don't have and probably wont for a while!)... especially ones that have like, no fat! :) Discovered your blog this morning from GYB Hop... love catching up on your recipes, they look fab!
ReplyDeleteI liked the chocolate banana version, but it was a little bland. Next time I will add a pinch of cinnamon and walnuts.
ReplyDeleteWhat if u just want to make chocolate. Or if u just want to make strawberry. Or just one flavor...
ReplyDeleteI don't think you can, since it's not "real" ice cream. Just my thoughts. This is supposed to be a "version" of ice cream.
ReplyDeleteYeah, if you take the banana out you have no base. I would recommend trying real ice cream for that.
DeleteInstead of cocoa powder, do you think Nutella would work?
ReplyDeleteNutella would be fabulous. More calories, but incredible!

I made this today with my 5 yr old niece as we are having our movie night together and I used the Aldi brand of Nutella and she was so excited to make it herself she couldn't let it freeze all the way!! So after lots of begging and her asking if it was done every 5 mins I caved and took it out of the freezer after an hour and it was still amazing to eat. She LOVED it!! and so did 9 month old little brother. I have the Peanut butter one in the freezer now and can't wait to taste it!!
ReplyDeleteOh Jeanette! I am so happy you all love it. My munchkin loves it too! Enjoy! XOXO
Deletedo you think you could add in protein powder? maybe even chocolate protein powder to go with the flavor?
ReplyDeleteThat would be interesting, but there is no liquid. I would give it a try. Let me know how it goes.
DeleteDark cocoa powder makes it extra rich tasting, especially with a splash of vanilla extract.
ReplyDeleteLove 99% of your recipes, but this one is not an "ice cream" in any manner. Not worthy of my effort.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct. It is a healthy alternative perfect for littles. If its not your cup of tea, then feel free to check out our other sweets. Have a fabulous summer.
DeleteTwo questions:
ReplyDelete1. Does this turn out sweet? Because cocoa powder is super bitter. I was thinking of adding a tsp. of vanilla to it as well, but I wanted to know what you guys thought!
2. I tried doing the banana ice cream before with almond milk. I put it back in the freezer because it was soupy, but then it became an ice block... Any one know why? Will it freeze soft if it were just bananas?
Thanks!
I have done frozen bananas with almond milk. It was delicious. You may have added too much almond milk. You don't need much in there for the perfect creamy consistency.
DeleteAlmond milk is mostly water and would have the same effect when freezing.
DeleteWould chocolate syrup work the same? Or could I add peanut butter instead of chocolate?
