These frozen strawberry yogurt dog treats are a simple, wholesome way to spoil your pup with ingredients you’d eat yourself.

To be honest, I have popped these in my mouth from time to time. I won’t tell you if you don’t. {wink}

No mystery fillers, no weird preservatives… just real food for your best friend. Bonus? They’re super easy to make and even cuter coming out of paw-print molds!

When it’s extra hot outside, I’ll make a few different flavors at once and toss them all into a big baggie for a flavor surprise.

INGREDIENT NOTES

• Strawberries: Use ripe, fresh berries for the best flavor. The deeper the color, the better! Be sure to trim the stems completely before blending.
  
  I like to use a straw to hull strawberries quickly without losing too much of the fruit. Thaw frozen strawberries first and pat them dry to avoid excess water, which would lead to ice crystals.
  
• Yogurt: Avoid anything with flavors or sweeteners, especially xylitol (it’s toxic to dogs). Plain, unsweetened Greek yogurt is best!

Instructions

• Prepare the Strawberries: Rinse the strawberries. Slice off the stems and cut each berry in half.
• Blend the Ingredients: Add 10 fresh strawberries, 1/2 cup plain Greek Yogurt, and 2 tablespoons real honey to a food processor or blender. Blend until smooth, scraping down the sides as needed.

A lot of homemade pet snacks feature sweet ingredients, so I thought I’d try something a little more savory this time.

What I especially love about this 3-ingredient frozen dog treats recipe is how easy it is to throw together!

If you do want to stick with sweet treats, I’ve got several other flavors of frozen dog treats like strawberry, blueberry, and watermelon. Each is made with simple, fresh ingredients to keep your pup happy and healthy.

Does your furry friend prefer biscuits? Try this tasty peanut butter snack that’s packed with nutrients from shredded carrots and oats.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

• Coconut Oil – Virgin coconut oil is the top choice for health benefits, but any kind will do.
  
• Spinach – Opt for fresh over frozen for the best taste and texture. Feel free to use regular or baby spinach — whichever is available or that you have on hand. 
  
  And since it’s going right in the food processor, there’s no need to pick off any longer stems.
  
• Rosemary – This has antioxidants and antibacterial properties, plus iron, calcium, and B6. It’s excellent for promoting heart and immune health. 
  
  However, do not feed rosemary to a dog that’s prone to seizures! Feel free to swap it with a different (safe) herb or leave it out entirely.

Safe Herbs for Dogs

Always confirm with your veterinarian or a trusted pet source before making recipes with herbs for dogs. 

Despite being natural, some herbs and spices are very dangerous when consumed by our furry friends!

• Always use fresh herbs. 

Dried rosemary has little to no nutritional value, so be sure to grab a fresh sprig to maximize the health benefits of this frozen dog treat recipe.

• Don’t overdo it! 

Spinach is great for dogs in small quantities, but large amounts can give them diarrhea and cause them to vomit. 

It’s best not to change the amount of spinach unless you are preparing a double batch.

• Avoid spills. 

Use a pourable cup or syringe to fill the molds instead of trying to do it with a spoon. It’s far more precise, and there’s less chance of drips and dribbles along the way.

Also, place the silicone mold on a small baking sheet so it’s easier to transfer in and out of the freezer.

• Store homemade frozen dog treats in the freezer at all times.

Freeze until solid, then transfer frozen dog treats to an airtight container and store in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Coconut oil has a low melting point, so these will quickly lose their shape if kept in the refrigerator or at room temperature.

Especially in the summer, you’ll end up with the herbs in a greasy puddle!

Instructions

• Strip the rosemary from the stem and place it in the food processor, along with the spinach. You can use a blender as well. Blend until finely chopped. The rosemary won’t reduce as much, that’s perfectly ok.
• Place about half a teaspoon in each paw print.
• Place the coconut oil in the small dish and microwave for it for about 45 seconds or until liquified.

If you are looking for biscuit treats, this peanut butter version is also easy to make with just a handful of ingredients.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

• Berries – I used fresh blueberries in these frozen blueberry dog treats. 
  
  But, if you don’t have fresh berries, you can also use freeze-dried or even frozen blueberries. Just be sure that there is no added sugar in the variety that you buy.
  
• Coconut Oil – Any variety works just fine for this recipe, as long as it is solid when cool. Don’t use fractionated coconut oil as it won’t solidify properly. 
  
  And during the warmer months, your coconut oil may already be liquid so you can skip the melting step!
  
• Herbs (optional) – This recipe also includes fresh thyme. If you don’t have fresh thyme, other options include oregano, rosemary, peppermint, and parsley. 
  
  Or you can skip this ingredient.

How to Make Blueberry Treats for Dogs

This recipe couldn’t be easier to make. It takes just a few minutes to assemble them and put them in the freezer.

1. Melt the coconut oil and use the syringe to pour it into the bottom of the mold.
2. Freeze for about 20 minutes.
3. Puree the blueberries in the blender. 
4. Fill the rest of the mold with the blueberry mixture.
5. Then, sprinkle minced thyme on the top and refreeze.

Homemade blueberry dog treats will need to freeze for about an hour and forty minutes depending on the size of the mold.

Tips for Making 2 Ingredient Frozen Dog Treats

• Swap out ingredients. You can use other fruits and herbs if you’d like. Just be sure they are a safe option for your dog.
  
• Use a syringe. Sure, it’s one more thing to clean, but you’ll get much cleaner results this way. 
  
  It’s also the easiest way to ensure that each treat has the same amount of coconut oil.
  
• Make small batches. Frozen blueberry treats for dogs are best within 1 to 2 months, so only make large batches if you have several canines to feed!
  
• Simplify the steps. If you don’t want to go through the first step of freezing the coconut oil layer, simply mix the blended blueberries and the melted coconut oil together and pour the mixture into the mold.

Homemade Watermelon Dog Treats

Frozen Watermelon Dog Treats are naturally sweet and full of protein and vitamins. Keep your fur baby healthy, safe, and cool this summer!

Ingredients

• 2 Cups watermelon deseeded
• 1/2 Cup plain Greek Yogurt

Instructions

• Remove the rind from your watermelon and slice it into large chunks.
• Combine both ingredients in a food processor and blend until no chunks appear and it’s smooth.
• Place the silicone molds on a hard, flat, moveable surface such as a small cutting board.
• Using the injector or the pouring tool of your choice, fill the cavities of the molds until it hits just under the brim.
• Gently and carefully place the treats in the freezer for 3 hours or until frozen solid.

Notes

These are great for humans as well. They’re safe and healthy to boot!

Want to add some sweetness to the treat? Toss in 2 Tablespoons of dog-safe honey.

I know using an injector sounds like a funny thing to do, but since the molds are so small, it’s the best tool for the job.

Do not store outside the freezer or the treats will melt. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 months.
