Strawberry Twinkie Cake Recipe (W/Real Strawberry Frosting)
My strawberry Twinkie Cake recipe makes a berry sweet dessert with a delicious whipped cream hiding in the center!
Ingredients
- 1 15.25 ounce Strawberry cake mix
- 1 cup water
- 3 large eggs
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1 box of Twinkies unwrapped
Strawberry Frosting
- 1 cup unsalted butter softened
- 1 cup fresh strawberries diced small
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 3 - 5 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup whipped cream
- Fresh sliced strawberries for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and prepare a 9x13 baking dish with non-stick spray.
- In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, water, eggs and vegetable. Beat with an electric mixer until completely combined and smooth.
- Pour half of the batter into the baking dish. Place the 8 unwrapped twinkies into the baking dish on top of the cake batter. Pour the remaining cake batter over the twinkies.
- Bake for 30 - 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool completely. Meanwhile prepare the strawberry frosting.
- Using a standing mixer, beat all ingredients together until combined and smooth.
- Spread the frosting smoothly onto the top of the cake.
- Scoop the whipped cream into the piping bag. Pipe dollops of whipped cream onto the cake.
- Top with fresh sliced strawberries.
Notes
You can use your favorite flavorless oil (vegetable, canola, olive oil - if you like it)
You can substitute Cool Whip for the whipped cream.
