I love making my own canine snacks at home. Not only is it easy to do, but I can choose my own ingredients so I know exactly what’s in each one.
Many recipes include vegetables or other bland foods, so give your dog watermelon treats as a sweet alternative without any added sugar.
All you need to make this recipe is ripe watermelon and plain Greek yogurt!

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
- Watermelon – For the best flavor, choose a ripe watermelon or use extra from one you’ve already snacked on!
The darker the flesh, the sweeter your frozen watermelon dog treats will be.
This recipe works with other types of melon too! Try honeydew or canteloupe for a different flavor. - Plain Greek Yogurt – Thick, creamy, and packed with protein, this blends easily with the juicy fruit for yummy watermelon treats.
Avoid flavored varieties with extra sugar, especially those sweetened with xylitol — it’s toxic for dogs!
You can use regular or low-fat plain yogurt if needed. The mixture will just be thinner and harder to work with
Best Way To Slice A Watermelon
Hold the fruit steady on a sturdy cutting board, then cut off both ends. Be sure to remove enough to see a large amount of the red flesh.
Stand the melon on one of the flat ends and slice down one of the sides, following the natural shape of the fruit.
Continue all the way around until you have removed the entire rind.
Cut the watermelon down the middle, then slice into spears. Chop into chunks for this recipe and enjoy any leftovers for yourself!

Tips and Tricks to Make Refreshing Watermelon Treats for Dogs
- Remove seeds before blending.
Take the time to chop up the fruit and pick out any seeds, even if they’re thin and white.
You want a smooth consistency when making watermelon treats for dogs. Seeds will clog up the syringe when you’re trying to fill the mold, and some pups might choke on them too. No one wants that!
- Want something sweeter?
Toss in 2 tablespoons of dog-safe honey with the fruit and yogurt.
- Avoid spills.
Place the molds on a baking sheet to keep them level and steady when transferring in and out of the freezer.

- Blender or Food Processor for mixing the fruit and yogurt
- Silicone Molds – The paw and bone shapes make watermelon treats for dogs extra fun!
- Baking Syringe – Since the molds are so small, this is a mess-free solution for this job. If you don’t have any on hand, a Pourable Cup will work too.
Storing Frozen Watermelon Dog Treats
It can depend on the yogurt ingredients, but these watermelon dog treats are usually good for up to 2 months when stored in an airtight container.
You can leave them in the molds if you’d like, or pop them out so you can clean and use the molds for another batch of treats.
Just be sure to keep watermelon dog treats in the freezer at all times or they’ll melt!

Sure! Just two real-food ingredients make these safe to eat and healthy to boot.
You can make dog watermelon treats in a regular ice cube tray if you prefer. For smaller dogs, I recommend filling each well about halfway so they are easier to chew.
Or, use small paper cups and fill them no more than an inch high. Peel off the paper once they are solid, then transfer to a large Ziploc bag or container with a lid for storage.
One, maybe two, is more than enough. Even though the ingredients are simple and healthy, these watermelon dog treats are meant to be a special snack.
The bulk of your canine’s daily nutrition should come from their kibble.

Homemade Watermelon Dog Treats
Ingredients
- 2 Cups watermelon, deseeded
- 1/2 Cup plain Greek Yogurt
Instructions
- Remove the rind from your watermelon and slice it into large chunks.
- Combine both ingredients in a food processor and blend until no chunks appear and it’s smooth.
- Place the silicone molds on a hard, flat, moveable surface such as a small cutting board.
- Using the injector or the pouring tool of your choice, fill the cavities of the molds until it hits just under the brim.
- Gently and carefully place the treats in the freezer for 3 hours or until frozen solid.
