2sheets puff pastrythawed but still cold (17oz package)
2tablespoonspowdered sugar
2tablespoonsbuttermelted
For the raspberry dip:
1/2cupfrozen raspberriesthawed
2tablespoonssugar
1tablespooncornstarch
3tablespoonspowdered sugar
Instructions
For the tree:
Prep: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Fill the pastry dough. Lay one sheet of pastry dough fat on the parchment-lined baking sheet and spread the Nutella over it in an even layer. Lay the other sheet of pastry dough on top. You should now have a large Nutella-filled pastry “sandwich”.
Make the tree: Cut the largest triangle out of the puff pastry as you can. Start from the bottom corners and cut toward the center of the top of the pastry. This is your “tree”. To make “branches”, cut slices down 1 side of the tree, parallel to the base. You should leave about an inch of pastry in the center for the tree trunk. Cut the same slices on the other side of the tree. Twist the branches a few times each and lay them flat.
Make decorations: Cut a square (for the base of the tree) and stars from the remaining scraps of dough. Use a small star cookie cutter or free-hand them. Pinch the square together with the base of the tree to create a “trunk” and scatter the stars randomly around the branches and trunk of the tree.
Bake: Brush the tree and stars with melted butter, and bake for 12 minutes or until the tree is a nice golden brown but still a bit soft. Transfer the tree to a cooling rack once baked.
Dust: Dust the tree with powdered sugar.
For the raspberry dip.
Make the sauce: Heat the thawed raspberries, sugar, powder sugar, and cornstarch over medium heat in a small skillet on the stovetop, stirring occasionally until the raspberries release their juices and the sauce begins to thicken.
Strain: Strain the sauce through a fine mesh sieve to get the seeds out. You can use a spoon to push the liquid through the sieve, it will be thick. You can skip this step if you don’t mind raspberry seeds.
Serve: Tear branches off of the Christmas tree and dip them into the raspberry sauce.
Notes
Keep Puff Pastry Cold: Puff pastry loves the cold, so make sure it's still cold when you start working with it. If it gets too warm, it won't puff up as beautifully.Work Quickly: When assembling the Nutella Christmas tree, work swiftly. Puff pastry should go from freezer to oven as quickly as possible for the best results.Use a Cookie Cutter: To make star shapes for decoration, use a small cookie cutter. It ensures uniform shapes and adds a festive touch.Custom Fillings: While Nutella is delightful, feel free to get creative with different fillings. Peanut butter, jams, or chocolate spreads can all create unique and tasty variations.
