In a large skillet, brown the ground beef, diced onion, and bell pepper over medium heat. Cook for 8-10 minutes until the beef is no longer pink and the onions and peppers are soft.
Add the garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional minute.
Transfer meat and vegetable mixture to the crockpot. Sprinkle it with salt and pepper.
Add ketchup, apple cider vinegar, mustard, tomato paste, water, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine the ingredients.
Cover with a lid and cook on LOW for 3-4 hours.
Stir the sloppy joe mixture and pile onto hamburger buns. Top with a slice of cheese if desired.

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.Use toasted hamburger buns - add butter and rub with garlic cloves for extra flavor on the buns. Toasted buns hold up better to the “sloppiness” of sloppy joes!
