Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

  • Wings – Use your preference of drumettes and flats or a mixture of both. It should be labeled on the package, but you can also ask the butcher if buying fresh.
  • Baking Powder – This is the secret ingredient for extra crispy chicken skin!
  • Parmesan – Fresh is always best, but packages will work in a pinch. You’ll need finely grated cheese for the sauce, then shreds for sprinkling on before serving.
  • Unsalted Butter – Parmesan cheese is naturally salty, so stick with unsalted butter for the sauce.

How to Make Garlic Parmesan Wings

  • Coat the chicken.

Remove the wings from the packaging and pat dry thoroughly with paper towels. This helps the seasoning stick better to the surface.

Add to a large bowl with baking powder and spices, then toss until each piece is coated on all sides.

  • Air fry until crispy.

Preheat the air fryer to 360°F — you want it already hot when you add the garlic parm wings.

Spray the basket with oil to prevent sticking, then place the chicken inside in a single layer. No pieces should be touching to ensure to crisp on all sides.

Cook for about 24 minutes, flipping them halfway. Work in batches until all of the garlic parmesan wings are cooked.

  • Toss with sauce.

Whisk together melted butter, garlic, parmesan, and black pepper. Pour over the cooked wings and toss until well coated.

Sprinkle on some extra parmesan and freshly chopped parsley before serving!

Garlic Parmesan Wings Recipe FAQ

Can you cook frozen wings in an air fryer?

I used fresh poultry for this garlic parmesan wings recipe, but there is no reason you can’t use frozen if you prefer.

Just make sure that the internal temperature reads 165°F when you remove them.

How many garlic parm wings can I cook at one time?

That will depend on the size and type of air fryer you have. Regardless, it’s important to place the parmesan garlic wings in a single layer and be sure not to crowd them.

My garlic parmesan wings recipe makes enough for 4 pounds of wings, drumettes, and flat. You can adjust it as needed to feed fewer people or a larger crowd.

What’s the best way to keep wings crispy once cooked?

Keep a lined baking sheet in an oven preheated to 250°F — either parchment or aluminum foil will work.

As each batch of garlic parmesan wings comes out of the air fryer, transfer them to the pan. They’ll stay hot and crispy until it’s time to get them on the table!

Storing Leftover Parmesan Garlic Wings

Place leftovers in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days.

You can also freeze garlic parmesan wings for 4 to 6 months! Transfer to the refrigerator the night before serving to thaw.

To reheat, place them back in the air fryer at 360°F for 4 minutes. Then, increase the temp to 400°F and cook for about 5 minutes to get them nice and crispy again.
