Frozen Margarita Recipe

This recipe does not use a frozen margarita mix because I find that they are often too sweet.

Instead, we get just the right amount of sweetness from our homemade simple syrup.

How to Make a Frozen Margarita

  1. Rim the margarita glasses in lime juice, then dip in coarse salt. Set aside.
  2. Add ingredients and 3 cups of ice to the blender (adjusting to personal preference). Blend together until the mixture becomes a thick slush.
  3. Pour into rimmed glasses and garnish with a lime slice.
  4. Serve and enjoy!

Yes, a classic margarita will contain triple sec. This Jose Cuervo margarita contains tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and simple syrup — and the ice, of course.

You will also need coarse salt and lime juice for rimming your glasses.

Best Frozen Margarita Recipe Tips

This frozen margarita recipe is very easy to follow. But, here are a few simple tips to make the best drink possible:

  • Use crushed ice. This makes the job easier on your blender, and you won’t end up with tiny chunks in your drink.
  • Add liquids first. Then, place the ice on top. Trust me — it just turns out better this way!
  • Start on low. Once everything starts to combine, slowly increase the speed.
  • Don’t over-blend! The blades will generate heat inside the blender, causing the ice to melt and resulting in a watery cocktail.
  • Want to add fruit? Be sure that any fruit is frozen and not fresh. Otherwise, your frozen margarita will be too watery.

How to Rim a Margarita Glass

One of the most important steps when making a Jose Cuervo margarita is rimming the glass! It’s very easy to do with a little bit of preparation.

Step 1: Fill a shallow bowl or rimmed plate with a thin layer of coarse salt.

Step 2: Cut a lime into wedges, then make a shallow slice in the center of the fleshy part.

Rest the wedge on the rim of the glass and run it all the way around to coat the entire rim in juice.

Step 3: Gently flip the glass and dip it into the coarse salt, until the rim is evenly coated.

For a fun variation, you can color the salt with a drop or two of food coloring!

Match the color of the salt to your party theme, or coordinate it with the flavor of your frozen margarita recipe.

If people prefer a sweet rim, then sanding sugar will do the trick.

Frozen Margarita FAQ

What is the difference between silver and gold tequila?

Silver tequila is bottled right after it is distilled, which is why it is clear — if it happens to be aged, it’s only for a few months.

Gold tequila is aged in wooden barrels, which give it that signature golden hue.

There are differences in flavor as well: silver tequila tends to be stronger, while gold tequila is smoother and somewhat sweeter.

What is the best frozen margarita recipe?

Well, we’re certainly partial to this one! It all comes down to finding the perfect balance of ingredients and blending it just right. This frozen Jose Cuervo margarita is certainly not for everyone. The easiest way to make margaritas taste better is to reduce the amount of tequila or swap out the citrus juice.Instead of lime, use freshly squeezed juice from a Meyer Lemon, grapefruit, blood orange, or tangerine!

What pairs well with margaritas?

Margaritas go wonderfully with both chicken and shrimp, especially if they have lime juice as part of the recipe.
