  22. The most favorite food my mum cooked for me would be a cake she made when I was little. I still remember it pretty well. I used to love fish, the ones that you have in an aquarium, so she made about 15 fish from fondant. They resembled the live ones so closely, it must have taken her such a long time to make them. She put them on a blue-iced cake, so it looked like they were in a sea. The next year I wanted the same, but she didn't want to spend so much time doing it again :DD

Now days I spruce it up with great bread, spicier gravy and toppings but my happy meal was plain milk gravy with hamburger meat poured over white bread - feed four kids cheap! With all our exposure to great ideas this meal is option-less. 94. Actually my all time favorite cook was my mother in law, Thelma...She made The most delicious meals from whatever she had on hand...But Sunday dinner after church was my favorite, fried chicken, very lumpy mashed potatoes, creamed lima beans, gravy & homemade biscuits, with a chiffon cake that would make you swoon with rapid heartbeat. When I think about her biscuits, I can actually smell them. Sadly she's been gone since 1988...But her recipes live on in my teaching my 5 girls and 1 daughter in law daughter all Thelma Mee Maw's secrets...Dcandlady@aol.com

  96. My mom made the most incredible manicotti, the pasta made from scratch, more like a crepe than a pasta filled with three cheeses. She would lay them in a baking dish, cover them with our Uncle Joe's mushroom gravy(sauce to non-Italians) and freshly grated parmigiana reggiano cheese and bake them in the oven until the cheese got a light brown color and was beautifully crispy . The sauce(gravy to us) was a dark red almost brown color due to the dried, reconstituted mushrooms boiled with the mushrooms, carrots, garlic and celery until tender and then chopped into a paste(battuto) which was the basis for the gravy. Tomato paste and crushed tomatoes were added and the mushroom gravy was used to get the sauce to the right consistency. I could eat a dozen of them. Thank goodness I have the recipe and can make both the gravy and the manicotti whenever I get the urge for them.

  112. My mom makes INCREDBLE Enchiladas Verdes. She slow roasts the chicken and then pulls it. Then she makes the filling with Queso Chihuahua, onions, diced tomato and the chicken...adding a little bit of sour cream to hold filling together. Then she rolls the filling into corn tortillas. After all the tortillas are rolled, she makes the salsa topping. She boils tomatillo, and roasts the green chile. In a blender she will then put the chile, tomatillo, cilantro and chicken broth. Then she will add Crema Mexicana and an avocado or two and blend until it is more saucy. She slathers the sauce all of the top of the rolled tortillas (saves more for having some on the side) and then covers the saucy tortilllas with shredded queso chihuahua. Bakes in the oven on 350 for about 30 min. or until cheese is hot and bubbly. Most delicious dish ever!

The marvel is that she did this for her whole 87 year life.

  180. My favorite thing my Mom made was her stuffed peppers. She'd start them early, so as I was getting near my house, walking home from school on an autumn day, I could smell those fantastic aromas, and I'd know that my favorite dinner was a couple of hours away. <3
