Cheesy Italian Bread Sticks in Just 30 Minutes

We are pizza eating machines at our house!  Pizza, bread sticks and marinara sauce pretty much will make us all happy any day of the week.  Take out is not my idea of happiness, so I have been working on this incredible dough.  You can have pizza and bread sticks in just 30 minutes with this fabulous recipe.

How about homemade mozzarella sticks that are just as simple to make.

Ingredients
 

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast, (1 package)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 cup warm water, between 110ଏ to 120ଏ
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour, 2 1/2 – 3 cups
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted (divided)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 1 tablespoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • cornmeal
  • Olive oil

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 450°F. Prepare a jelly roll pan by lightly brushing with 1 Tbsp butter and sprinkling with corn meal. Set aside.
  • Add water to stand mixer bowl fitted with a dough hook. Sprinkle yeast and sugar. Swirl to combine. Allow to sit for 10 minutes while yeast blooms (it will be fragrant).
  • Meanwhile you can prepare ingredients. Turn mixer to low. Add flour, salt, butter, 2 Tbsp cheese, Italian seasoning and 1 teaspoon garlic powder. Mix on medium until combined.
  • Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth. Roll dough into a rectangle. Transfer to prepared pan.
  • Lightly brush crust with olive oil and sparsely sprinkle with garlic powder.
  • Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oven, brush with 1 Tbsp butter and sprinkle with remaining Parmesan cheese.

Donna’s Notes

This crust also works for an amazing and quick pizza.

  1. Mmm these bread sticks sound fabulous! Now only if I had some waiting for me when I got home… guess I'll just have to make some. 🙂

    1. Absolutely. You could make them in a bowl and mix with a spoon. The remove and place on a floured surface and kneed bread for 5-7 minute, until bread is tacky, but not sticky.

    I love a good breadstick! I had to make these and i absolutely loved them! I just bought the stuff to make them again next week!
