A Look Back at the Week of March 26

What a beautiful week it has been.  I am really enjoying the weather, however we did finally break down and turn the A/C on by Friday.

The gardens are coming along great.  Munchkin is so proud of her tomatoes and basil.  I am so excited about the basil.  I have about 20 basil plants of 3 different varieties growing.  That means for a lot of delicious recipes very soon.

This week we enjoyed sharing some great recipes with you and here is what was most popular this week:

What is Your Favorite Easter Candy?

Chad and I have been brainstorming (well more Chad than I) about fabulous Easter cocktails.  He already made my favorite Easter candy into a magnificent cocktail.

The Peanut Butter Cup Delight Cocktail is Chad's rendition of my FAVORITE Easter candy; Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs. It is soooo good, you really should try it!

This leaves us wondering what other fantastic Easter basket treats he could turn into an amazing cocktail.  We are open to suggestions, what is your favorite Easter candy?  Whopper eggs?  Jelly beans? Cadbury Eggs?  Peeps?  The chocolate Easter bunny?  What would you like to see turned into a cocktail?

Crock Pot Spiced Apple Butter

Happy Homemade Wednesday Slow Roasters!  Apple butter has been on my list of things to make for so long now.  Perhaps fear of the unknown kept me from making it sooner.  After I finished this heavenly creation I kind of laughed at myself.  It was so easy.  Don't wait.  Go to the store and buy your favorite apples and make some apple butter.

You house will smell heavenly all day, and you will have 6-8 jars of this delicious Spiced Apple Butter as your reward.  Munchkin loved it and so did Chad.  It was a huge hit.  You are going to love it.

The Slow Roasted Italian - A Look Back at the Week of March 19

Hello and Happy Saturday Slow Roasters.  We had a great week here at The Slow Roasted Italian.  We have been trying new recipes and still loving old ones.  Gardening has been exciting as we watch these little buds emerge.  I am happy to say that it looks like at least 12 of the basil plants are sprouting.  The tomato plants are looking good.  We have about 10 or 11 tomatoes sprouted, along with some peppers (Italian bell to habenero).  Mostly everything else is taking its time.

This week we had 5 amazing recipes and incredibly mouth watering pictures to go with them.   So are you curious what everyone has been checking out all week?

SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE FOR RECIPE

Happy Thursday Slow Roasters!  Welcome to Ladies Night here at The Slow Roasted Italian.  Tonight I am sharing a very special cocktail created by our very own mixologist Chad (also my fabulous other half).

After a long hard day what sounds amazing to you?  The most heavenly food combination ever:  peanut butter and chocolate.  Do you remember that commercial from the 80's?  A jar of peanut butter and a giant chocolate candy bar sticking out.  "You stuck your chocolate in my peanut butter..."  THAT could be my heaven.

Dried Apple Chips

Happy Wednesday everyone!  Today we are sharing a favorite family healthy snack.  My munchkin is on an apple kick and this is such an easy and convenient way to snack on something that she loves with the nutrition that I love!!  I keep a airtight container in her bag and a ziploc bag in mine with dried apple chips.  They keep well and we never have to grab junk food when we are out (unless we want too, of course).

Southwestern Turkey Meatloaf

Happy Monday Slow Roasters!  Today is On The Lighter Side at The Slow Roasted Italian.  I would like to share with you a new meatloaf I created.

We surely love meatloaf in this house, but I get a little tired of the old standard Meatloaf with Balsamic Glaze which happens to be Chad's favorite dish that I make and Munchkins favorite 3 Ingredient Meatloaf  so, I decided to give some new flavors a try and I developed this incredibly flavorful and delicious Southwestern Turkey Meatloaf.  It is a great low calorie option as it only has 267 calories per serving and 8 grams of fat.

TRSI Week in Review

We had a very exciting week here at TSRI.  We have been planting starters for our garden, and cooking up a storm.  We have 3 seedlings sprouting (Roma tomato, Isis Candy Cherry Tomato and German Chamomile), I am so excited.  Munchkin is too.  The Roma tomato plant is hers.  Needless to say we have about 60 other starters and are very excited to get to the nursery this morning for mulch, manure and gypsum.  From what I understand a good mixture in my area is 1/3 existing soil, 1/3 sand, 1/3 mulch.  Mix that together and the add some manure and gypsum.  Perfect Arizona soil.  We are also starting our compost.

This is a new endeavor for us, but I am oddly excited!!!

Better than McDonalds! Shamrock Shake

Happy Friday Slow Roasters and welcome to Diving Into Decadence.  This week I would like to share with you my version of McDonalds Shamrock Shake made special for the best Daddy in the world!

Every February for the last 15 years Chad says: "Guess what is out?  Shamrock Shakes at McDonald's!!!"  Wearing the excited smile of a 6 year old that just got his first bike, we drive into the drive thru and he orders his Shamrock Shake.  This ritual has occurred ever since I have known him.  Over the last couple years the shake was not as impressive as it used to be;  who knows why, formula change, taste buds change, whatever the reason.

Mint Chocolate Shamrocktini

Happy Thursday and welcome to Ladies Night at The Slow Roasted Italian.

As we were planning and preparing for this weeks Ladies Night we picked every clover and followed every rainbow, and then we came upon this tiny wee fella dancing around a pot of gold.  We asked him if he had any secret drink recipes for us, he said he would kindly share one with us for the price of one gold coin.  Not having any gold coins we offered him a bottle of Goldschl├Ąger to add to his pot of gold.  He became giddy with excitement and whispered a magical recipe to us.  We are here to share it with you.  Enjoy!

Enjoy all you shamrock shakers and pot o' gold chasers!

TSRI Weekly Review

Happy Saturday Slow Roasters!  It has been an amazing week here at The Slow Roasted Italian.  We have been planning, gardening, and finding ways to utilize the fruits on our property.  Chad discovered that the 32 orange trees that we have blooming are Seville (bitter) oranges.  There are many culinary and beauty uses for these trees, the flowers and fruit.  So, I am very excited about this development.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip

Happy Friday Slow Roasters and welcome to Diving Into Decadence at The Slow Roasted Italian.  At our last party the star dessert was this amazingly addictive Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip that was served with animal crackers and fruit slices.

For a party where every food was a dip of some sort this was truly the icing on the cake.  We also enjoyed
4 Layer Pizza Dip with Parmesan Herb Bread Sticks, 7 Layer Mexican Bean Dip along with a few other finger foods.  The party was a hit and so was this dip!  Enjoy.

How to: Make your Own Fresh Strawberry Syrup

This is an absolutely divine Strawberry Syrup that takes less than 30 minutes and makes a pint of sumptuous syrup!   We truly enjoy this syrup.  Who needs to buy syrup from the store when you can make this at home?

Strawberry Syrup makes about 1 pint syrup
1/2 pound rip strawberries, washed and hulled
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon orange juice

In a medium saucepan combine ingredients.  Smash strawberries and turn heat to medium.  Bring to a boil, reduce to simmer for 10 minutes without a cover.

Remove from heat.  Enjoy warm on pancakes.  Allow to cool to room temperature before using for ice cream and cocktails.  If you prefer seedless syrup, strain with a fine mesh sieve.

Enjoy!

Shamrock Shake Cocktail

Happy Thursday and welcome to Ladies Night here at The Slow Roasted Italian.

I can't believe its March already.  Only 16 days until Saint Patricks Day.  Mr. W seems to always know when it is March, he goes crazy over these McDonald's Shamrock Shakes (well until they changed the formula).  Anyway, he and I have developed our own versions of the Shamrock Shake.

This is Chad's adult version of the Shamrock shake.  I will share mine very soon!
